Join us for a fun-filled weekend of birding in central Wisconsin June 13-16, 2024! Join us for an exciting journey through central Wisconsin for a chance to see a few of the most rare species in the Midwest! The Kirtland's Warbler, Whooping Crane, and Greater Prairie-Chicken all rely on unique habitats found in central Wisconsin and only a handful of other places in the Midwest. We'll visit places like Necedah National Wildlife Refuge, Buena Vista Grasslands, and other enchanting habitats in the heart of the Badger State. This is our first visit to Wisconsin and we're very excited! All of the details are below and you can contact us if you have any questions. Come join the fun! |
The registration fee is $75 for young birders who are current members (either as part of a youth or family membership) of Iowa Young Birders; $85 for young birders who are not members; and $100 for adult participants. This includes water and snacks during three days of field trips as well as group transportation while birding.
In addition to the registration fee, you will be responsible for transportation to Wisconsin Dells (where we are staying), lodging, and meals.This exciting weekend event is open to young birders ages 8 through 18 and their accompanying parents, grandparents or guardian. To assure a quality experience, our trip capacity will be limited. Once capacity is reached, you will be placed on a waiting list. Please see our trip policies for full details on participation.
Our trips will be leaving from the Quality Inn and Suites in Wisconsin Dells, and we have reserved a block of rooms at this hotel for our group. The Quality Inn and Suites offers several amenities including free breakfast (with hot and cold options), free parking, free WIFI, and a pool. There are several types of rooms available that includes either a single king bed or two queen beds and a variety of other in-room amenities.
There are a number of lodging options available in Wisconsin Dells. We recommend you visit Trip Advisor to find the best option for you in regards to price, location, and amenities. You will be responsible for providing transportation to the Quality Inn and Suites if you choose not to stay there.
As you might imagine, in order to make this a memorable and safe experience for everyone, we have some very important policies and reminders. You can review them here and you will be agreeing to abide by these policies when you register for this exciting family birding trip.

1:00 p.m. Depart for more birding at Necedah NWR or other nearby areas
4:00 p.m. Return to Wisconsin Dells
Saturday, June 15
5:00 a.m. Breakfast (on your own)
5:30 a.m. Depart for Kirtland's Warbler field trip
11:00 a.m. Lunch in Wisconsin Rapids
1:00 p.m. Depart for Buena Vista Grasslands (potential for Greater Prairie-Chickens)
4:00 p.m. Return to Wisconsin Dells
6:30 p.m. Optional group dinner in Wisconsin Dells
Sunday, June 16
6:00 a.m. Breakfast (own your own)
6:30 a.m. Depart for field trip (location TBD)
